Covered Porch Conversion to Conditioned Living Space

The homeowners needed additional space for their growing family and wanted to convert their covered back porch into a true extension of the home — not just a seasonal sunroom. A key priority was preserving as much of the existing view as possible while creating a comfortable, year-round living area.

To transition the structure from exterior porch to livable square footage, the space beneath was sealed and a block foundation system was constructed to properly enclose and support the new room. The floor system was reinforced and leveled with a new subfloor to create a stable base for finished plank flooring.

The walls and ceiling were insulated to prepare the room for dedicated heating and cooling, and dimmable overhead lighting was installed to provide flexibility and comfort. Interior walls were finished with Hardie siding to maintain continuity with the home’s exterior character. Working closely with a window and door vendor, we maximized glass area to preserve natural light and maintain the original view.

The result is a fully integrated living space — structurally sound, properly enclosed, and designed to function as a seamless extension of the home.

This conversion reflects the level of coordination and structural preparation required to transform exterior square footage into fully integrated, year-round living space.
